The Colorado Plateau - Sedona

posted by Rex Manz on 17 November 2008

Wind and water have eroded the Colorado Plateau over the past 300-million years.  The Mogollon Rim in Northern Arizona is the leading edge of this erosion from an elevation of 7,000-feet down to an elevation of 4,500-feet.  The predominately red and beige hues of sandstone are most dramatic in Sedona Arizona.  These red rock formations attract approximately 5-million visitors annually second only to the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

The drive through Oak Creek Canyon on the way to Sedona is ranked one of the top-10 most scenic drives in America.  Among other things, Sedona is considered a new-age metaphysical mecca with it’s deep Native American roots and energy vortexes.

The closest Colorado ski town is Telluride Colorado which shares some of the same red rocks.  To think that a piece of Colorado is in Arizona!
