eSpace Venture Capital Fund

With the highest number of PhDs per capita of any city in the U.S., Boulder has an undisputed brain trust.  Boulder is also a magnet for lifestyle-conscious entrepreneurs.  Combine the two and you have a logical location for aerospace startups.  eSpace - The Center for Space Entepreneurship is a non-profit company formed by the University of Colorado and SpaceDev, Inc..  With an initial funding in excess of $1-million, eSpace will serve as an incubator for aerospace business startups.  It will also provide grants to high school graduates and community college students to foster space-related job growth.  The initial five startups will receive a $20,000 grant and have access to office and technical space in exchange for giving eSpace a small ownership position in the startup company.  eSpace will award a $90,000 grant to the University of Colorado’s aerospace engineering sciences department to fund the development of nanosatellites to aid in the prediction of solar storms and the development of a mini-jet engine for unmanned aerial vehicles to study micro-weather effects.  eSpace is the only company of its kind.  Space is the last frontier.
